The Mississippi Legislature has been ordered to Redraw Two House and Senate Districts by a federal three-judge panel.
A three-judge panel in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Mississippi ruled that at least two state Senate districts and one state House of Representatives will have to be redrawn/redistricted as minority-majority districts.
Senate areas addressed were DeSoto County and the city of Hattiesburg. Chickasaw County for the House. As one district shifts it has a domino effect to surrounding areas. Just how many counties will be affected will be known in the coming weeks. Any legislative district change will result in a special election that must be held before the January 2025 legislative session.
