Philadelphia Suspect in Shooting is ILLEGAL MS -13 Gang Member

Philadelphia Police Department continues to investigate the shooting incident on Beacon St where a gunman fired shots at passing vehicles. Investigators have been working with multiple agencies including US Attorney General's office, Homeland Security, ATF, and US Prosecutors. Immigration agents with Homeland Security were able to take the fingerprints of the suspect and run them through a federal database to learn more about his status. Originally suspect advised that he was Jonathan Salvador of Mexico. Believe he has been using this name for some time while in the US.

A fingerprint match showed this suspect to actually be Fredy Antonio Amaya-Marin 39 years of age from El Salvador. Learned that he has previously been deported back to El Salvador in 2007 and reentered the county illegally again. Further findings show that Amaya-Marin is a confirmed member of the Mara Salvatrucha gang (MS-13) a violent international street gang.

Amaya-Marin currently faces up to 8 counts of attempted murder in the Beacon Street shootings. Also faces some Federal charges including illegal re-entry after deportation and illegal alien in possession of a firearm. Investigators are working with the DA office and US prosecutors on any additional charges.

He is being held without bond currently and is also being held by Homeland Security ICE for a process of removal from the US.

We will continue to work closely with State and Federal agencies to rid the community of such gangs coming into our community wreaking havoc and causing destruction.

Original Story

"Mexico Resident" Arrested in Philadelphia, MS for Allegedly Shooting at 15 Cars.

Philadelphia Police Department has made an arrest in reference to the recent shootings on Beacon St. near the area of Burger King, where approximately 15 vehicles were struck with bullets this week. Three of which left individuals injured. Early morning of 8/24/2024 officers canvassed the area of Alford Ave., where the shots appeared to be coming from. Briefly searched the property of a residence on Alford inside and out and recovered a handgun inside the bedroom of one individual. “Jonathan Salvador” 31 of Mexico was taken into custody and is also believed to be in the country illegally.

Officers revisited the area this morning after daylight to get a better search of the area. During the search officers recovered an AR style rifle in the residence near where Salvador’s room was as well as ammunition. The residence on Alford Ave. sits next to a small overgrown lot. In that area officers recovered nearly 30 shell casings matching the weapon found inside the residence. Officers observed the angle of attack on vehicles as they passed by and how they were struck.

Further investigation led to Salvador purchasing ammunition at a local gun dealer and also attempting to purchase an AR 15 days prior to these shootings. He was denied purchase of that weapon and only purchased the ammunition. We believe that he had intentions on carrying out more attacks throughout the city if he were allowed to purchase.

Salvador currently faces dozens of felony charges including Attempted Murder and many other charges. It is unclear at this time whether or not this incident is related to the windows being shot in the downtown area of some local businesses. Investigation is still ongoing and will release more updates as they come.

Salvador is currently being housed at the Winston-Choctaw Jail.
