Official Statement from MPD on the string of shootings.


The Meridian Police Department responded to local hospital on February 27th at 530pm in reference to a gunshot victim in the emergency room. According to victim he was walking in the area of 20th Street and 34th Avenue when a black truck drove by and the passenger discharged several rounds. The victim was not sure if the suspects were shooting at him or in the air. The victim was struck in the leg and is expected to make a full recovery. The Meridian Police Department responded to a local hospital on February 28th at 1230 pm in reference to a gunshot victim in the emergency room. According to the victim he was standing outside in a yard in the area of 36th Avenue and 18th Street when he was stuck by a bullet in the neck area. Detectives recovered shell casings on 37th Avenue. The victim was transported to a hospital in Jackson and is in stable condition. The Meridian Police Department responded to a local hospital on February 28th at 545pm in reference to a gunshot victim in the emergency room. The victim a juvenile stated she was shot in the leg by her brother who is also a juvenile. It is unknown at this time if the shooting was accidental and is currently still under investigation. The victim is excepted to make a full recovery.
