Murder Suspect Arrested in Lauderdale County





Sheriff Ward Calhoun confirms that at 7:10 p.m. last night, the Lauderdale County E-911 received a call that three people had been shot at a residence in the 9500 block of Northeast Cole Road. Deputies and Metro Ambulance responded, and upon arrival, the alleged shooter had left the scene. One of the victims had also left the scene and was taken to a local hospital by car. Metro Ambulance treated a female for a gunshot wound and then transported her to a local hospital.



The third victim was nonresponsive and the Lauderdale County Coroner Stella McMahan was contacted. Based on information gathered at the scene deputies began searching the area for a suspect and a vehicle. At approximately 9:30 p.m. deputies located the suspect vehicle in the 7000 block of Welch Road. The suspect was located a residence and was taken into custody. Investigators completed processing the crime scene on Northeast Cole Road and moved to a residence on Welsh Road.



Investigators based upon their ongoing investigation applied for and received a search warrant for the suspect vehicle and residence on Welsh Road. At approximately 3:30 a.m. this morning, Joseph Spinks (50-year-old B/M) of Toomsuba was charged with murder and booked into the Lauderdale County Detention Facility. No bond was set on the charge.
