Meridian Ends the Year With 14 Murders and One Still Under Investigation
2024 comes to an end for the City of Meridian, with crime being the most talked about subject in town. August was the deadliest month of the year with 4 deaths, followed by April and September. Within the city limits of Meridian, there have been 14 Murders this year, with one other case awaiting the results of an autopsy. Below is a listing of what happened each month.
January
January 18th- the only report of a shooting happened on Bragg Ave when a bullet grazed a male subject.
February-
Feb 1st - An officer was shot and a suspect was shot in the abdomen inside MPD’s Bonding Room
Feb 9th -Two people were struck by gunfire in the 4600 Block of 5th Street when nearly 200 rounds were fired in the street.
Feb 10th- One person was taken to the Hospital by Private car with GSW to the stomach. A few minutes before they arrived Gunfire broke out at Raising Cane’s shattering windows.
Feb 10th- One person was struck in the foot with a GSW in the 400 Block of 39th Ave.
Feb 23- A male was struck twice in the 2700 Block of 11th Street
Feb 29th - Meridian’s 1st Murder of the Year- A 17-year-old female was shot at 29th Ave and 25th Street.
March
March 1st -Gunfire broke out when an LCSO pulled a car over in the Parking lot of Walgreens in North Hills. The officer was shot in the arm, the officer returned fire killing the suspect in the parking lot.
March 2nd- Meridian’s 2nd Murder of the Year- Village Apartments on Mosby Road
March 10th - A female was shot at Village Apartments on Mosby Road.
April
April 25th - Meridian’s 3rd & 4th Murder occurred in the 4800 Block of 36th Ave. A double homicide, the unthinkable occurred when an elderly couple were killed in their home in North Hills.
May
May 4th -Juvenile Shot 47th Ave 15th Street
May 28th - One person was shot in the shoulder 4300 Block 36th AVE
May 28th -One Person Shot in the Neck 8th Street
May 31st -Meridain's 5th Murder- East MS State Hospital 59-Year-Old Male was Killed (1800 Block College Drive
June
June 8th- 1 person Shot unknown Location- (person would not give location)
June 17th-Female Shot in the Arm 8th Street 36th Ave
June 21st- Meridian's 6th Murder - 4 People Shot, One Person Deceased on 5th Street 53rd Ave
July
July 10th -1 person was shot in the Leg Western Gardens
July 29th- One person Shot in the Leg 2000 Block 46th Ave
August
Aug 3rd- Meridian’s 7th Murder - Male murdered 2600 Block Highland Ave
Aug 4th- 1 person shot in the Arm & Leg 1100 Block 27th Ave
Aug 5th- 1 Person Shot in the Arm 3800 Block 35th Ave
Aug 12th-Meridian’s 8th Murder- 40th Ave and Paulding Street
Aug 14th- 1 Male Shot in the Leg 900 Block 9th Ave
Aug 18th - Meridian’s 9th Murder- College Park Apartments - Man ran over with his truck
Aug 19th - 1 shot 2400 Block 41st Ave
Aug 20th -Accidental Shooting to the Cheek 3300 Block N Hills
Aug 22nd- 10th Murder of the Year 1600 Block 37th Ave (Highland Park) 73-year-old male dies and his wife shot in drive-by
Aug 23rd- Juveline shot leg (unknown location - would not give location.)
September
Sep 3rd - 1 person shot leg 46th Ave Hooper Street
Sep 3rd- Meridian’s 11th Murder- Female Shot 8th Street 30th Ave
Sep 11th - 1 person shot in foot 3000 Block 10th Ave
Sep 27th- 1 person shot in the hand, parking lot McDonald's Hwy 19 South.
Sep 29th- Meridian’s 12th Murder- Male shot 2100 Block 41st Ave
