Carver Elementary Evacuated Today Due To Threat.
Carver Parents and Guardians,
I am following up regarding the incident that occurred at G.W. Carver Elementary on Tuesday, August 27,
2024, involving a bomb threat made against our school. Thankfully, it was determined that the threat was not credible, and all students and staff are safe.
Incident Overview
As soon as we became aware of the threat, we followed our emergency protocols, which included immediate notification to MPSD Campus Police, Meridian PD, Meridian Fire Dept., Homeland Security, MS Bureau of Investigation, and the FBI field office in Jackson, which led to a full evacuation of the school. These agencies thoroughly searched the premises and determined that there was no danger.
Ensuring Safety
We regularly review and update our emergency procedures to ensure that we are prepared to respond effectively in such situations. We will continue to work closely with law enforcement and security experts to maintain a safe environment for our school, which is our top priority. Although this threat was false and you may hear some untruthful statements, we take every incident seriously. Moving forward, we remain committed to providing a secure learning environment and will take any necessary steps to
prevent similar disruptions in the future.
Communication
We value open communication with our families and will continue to keep you informed about any important updates. Please make sure your phone number and email address on file is current so you don’t miss these important messages. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact
the school office.
Appreciation
I would like to thank Mrs. Shadwick and Mrs. McCune, Carver teachers, scholars, staff, district support personnel, Boys and Girls Club and everyone else involved for their role in ensuring the safety of our students. Parents, we especially want to thank you for your understanding, cooperation, and continued support as we work together to ensure the safety of our students.
Dr. Amy Carter, Superintendent
