Carjacker Arrested in Meridian
Thursday morning at or near the parking lot of Atlas Roofing a male had his vehicle taken by a man armed with a box cutter. The white male left the scene driving the stolen Black Tahoe. While Law Enforcement agencies searched for the vehicle the suspect crossed into Alabama. An MBI officer and a Union Police Department Detective were heading toward Tuscaloosa when they noticed the vehicle swerving in and out of traffic endangering motorists. They alerted Alabama troopers of the dangerous situation which led to law enforcement pulling the vehicle over near the MS/Al State Line The suspect was taken into custody, no names have been released as of this time. The suspect is awaiting extradition back into Mississippi.

This morning, at approximately 7:00 a.m., deputies and Metro Ambulance responded to a 911 call in the 2700 block of Valley Road. The caller stated that a male by the name of Walter Reed had attacked a female with a box cutter. As a result, the female victim had a serious laceration on her head. Approximately nine minutes later, 911 was contacted by an individual who reported that a man armed with a box cutter had taken his vehicle from the parking lot of a business located in the 2300 block of Valley Road. Deputies gathered additional information and contacted investigators for assistance. Metro Ambulance transported the victim to a local emergency room.
At approximately 8:00 a.m., a Mississippi Bureau of Investigations agent was traveling eastbound on I-20/59 near the Alabama state line when he observed a vehicle driving erratically
. He contacted Alabama officials, and an Alabama trooper initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle. It was then determined that this was the vehicle that had been stolen less than an hour before on Valley Road. Walter Reed (W/M, 28 years old) was taken into custody without incident. He is currently being held in the Tuscaloosa County jail, where he is awaiting extradition back to Mississippi, where he will be charged with Carjacking with a $50,000 bond. The assault is still under investigation.
